5 Reasons Why You Should Join the National Trust Today!
Joining the National Trust is a no-brainer but here’re five reasons why you should join today!
1. You’ll Become Happier
You know that feeling of joy when you’re walking barefoot along the beach or delight when you’re walking on windswept cliffs. It’s official, being near the coast makes us happier!
Research carried out by the National Trust revealed that a whopping 82% of people say they feel happy after a walk by the coast. The ‘Great British Walks’ paper also found that walking along the coast gave people a sense of escape (62%) and made people more positive about their lives in general (55%).
With 775 miles of the UK coastline managed by the National Trust and one-third of their downloadable walks along the coast, it’s safe to say that the organisation is making a significant contribution to our happiness.
Join the National Trust, and you’ll get FREE parking at most the places they manage. And did we mention that loads of them are on the coast?
Being happy is just one-half of what’s crucial in life.

2. You’ll Get Healthier
Ever heard the saying ‘get some fresh sea air into your lungs’? The same ‘Great British Walks’ study also found that Brits feel healthier after a walk along the coast.
Maybe it’s not surprising when you know that on average people are getting 47 minutes more sleep per night. 69% of which are having a much deeper sleep which is very important for our health.
Furthermore, a whopping 83% of people reported more feeling of calm after a coastal walk. 65% said they felt more refreshed, and 55% more relaxed.
The National Trust has proved that getting exercise by the sea has positive health benefits all around.
Researcher and Environmental Psychologist Eleanor Ratcliffe stated:
‘Coastal walkers are getting more sleep, and more likely to show increased sleep quality and morning alertness…It’s clear that there is something special about the coast, particularly as a place to escape to that can allow people to boost their mood, relax and sleep in.’
Take advantage of being a member of an organisation that actually cares about your health and happiness. How many other services that you pay a lot more money cares about your well-being?
Also, the National Trust supports sustainably produced, local, and seasonal food. In fact, it’s one of their ‘Big Issues’ initiatives.
Corporate farming methods are flooding our food supply with chemicals. There’s never been a better time to roll back farming methods to healthier times.

3. Your kids quality of life will improve
By joining the National Trust, you’ll be joining an organisation that cares about improving the quality of life for your kids, and in turn, the whole family.
Through their ‘Natural Childhood’ campaign, they’re supporting the right for every child to connect to nature. According to the RSPB, just one in five British children are ‘connected to nature’, and time spent outdoors has halved in a generation.
This has created ‘Nature Deficit Disorder’ in British children and the broader population. For children, this has created worrying consequences such as physical health problems (including obesity), mental health issues, and inability to assess risks to themselves and others.
‘Natural Childhood’ has launched three initiatives to help reconnect children with nature:
- 50 things to do before you’re 11 ¾
- The Wild Network
- My Wild Time Year
The National Trust has loads of events to promote ‘Natural Childhood’ at their places. From pond dipping to den building, cooking on campfires, flying kites, making mud pies and more, there’s plenty of free outdoor things for kids to do.
Get your kids involved in this initiative and help them (and you) reconnect to nature. By joining the National Trust, they’ll be able to attend events at National Trust places throughout the country.
4. You’ll save money
Anyone ever told you what exceptional value you get by joining the National Trust?
Let’s do the maths.
Standard National Trust Membership
For standard annual National Trust Membership (without any offers or promo code discounts), the daily costs work out as:
- Adult – £0.20p
- Joint (two adults) – £0.33p
- Young Person – £0.10p
- Family (two adults) – £0.35p
- Family (one adult) – £0.21p
- Junior – £0.03p
In fact, you will get double the saving money benefits. First, you get to visit hundreds of really cool places in Britain for just pennies a day. Second, you’ll avoid the temptation of spending money on other much pricier days out.
Join the National Trust as an individual, couple (or as a pair) or a family, and you’ll save £££s throughout 2021.
5. You’ll protect wildlife and nature
If all this weren’t enough, as a National Trust member, you’d be supporting the conservation and preservation of their historic homes, gardens, countryside and coastlines. The Trust is also a leading light in promoting organic farming and conserving wildlife.
Conservation has always been at the heart of the National Trust and no more so than today. They protect Britain’s wildlife, coastline, forests, farmland, moorland, islands, historic houses, nature reserves, villages, pubs and more.
Joining the National Trust means you’ll directly contribute to the protection of endangered wildlife, over 270,000 hectares of land, 775 miles of coastline, and over 300 historic houses and gardens in Britain.
As the UK’s most prominent landowner, the rich diversity of Britain’s nature and wildlife benefits from their conservation work. Both national and local initiatives are protecting threatened wildlife and the natural environment.
Join the National Trust to become part of a more significant conservation movement to protect Britain’s wildlife and nature.
