Installing solar security lights
Solar security light packages all come with mounting kits including mounting bases, screws and screw plugs, and shouldn’t take more than a few minutes to install.
While modern solar cells can catch sunlit and charge batteries even on cloudy days, it’s obviously best to place the solar panel in a spot that will catch the most sun. For optimum energy it should be south facing.
Maintaining your solar security lights
Once they’re up and running, solar security lights require virtually no maintenance. Their solar panels power up rechargeable batteries during the day, and the batteries themselves should last for a couple of years.
Replacing the batteries is the only maintenance you’re likely to need – some use standard rechargeable AA or C size batteries. Others use 6V sealed lead acid rechargeable batteries, which can be replaced for around a tenner.
Moving to solar security lights is an obvious choice these days for peace of mind around the home. Not only do they keep you safe but they also have no electricity costs.
