Days out by train offer a relaxing way to see the UK, hassle-free away from traffic jams and road rage.
We’ve been doing some research and have found 83 money saving days out by train with rail passes and rail rangers.
We’re pretty sure that you’ve never heard of many of them as they’re tucked away. Many include other forms of transport such as buses included with the ticket.
Rail rangers and passes give you big savings on buying individual tickets, and they’re valid for a whole day. You can make as many trips as you like and they’re ideal for holidays, sightseeing or simply exploring.
The great news is that for many of them you can use Railcards and get 1/3 OFF the price.

London and South East England – Days Out by Train
London Travelcard
Unlimited one day travel in London on most trains, tube, Docklands Light Railway (DLR), London Overground, trams, buses (all buses regardless of the zones covered by the Travelcard) and 1/3 OFF scheduled riverboats. There are two options for Travelcards, Anytime and Off-Peak (after 9.30am Mondays to Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays).
Ticket prices vary depending on what zones you need to travel in. If you are travelling with children the easiest option (under 16s require an Oyster photocard to use the London Visitor Oyster Card) is the London Travelcard.
London Visitor Oyster Card
Unlimited one day travel in London on most trains, tube, Docklands Light Railway (DLR), London Overground, trams, buses and riverboats. Oyster cards can be used anytime. Travelcards are in two options Anytime and Off-Peak.
Ticket prices vary depending on what zones you need to travel in. The best option if travelling with adults only, only making a few journeys and travelling to zones 7, 8 or 9, is the London Visitor Oyster Card.
Off-Peak Day Travelcard to London
Travel to London at Off-Peak times and get unlimited Off-Peak travel within London on trains, buses, the tube, Docklands Light Railway and trams. Also, includes 2FOR1 London attraction offers. Travel must be from within the Network South East area surrounding London. Further discounts are available with Groupsave and Network Railcards. Tickets can be purchased from South West Trains for the Off-Peak Day Travelcard to London.
Bicester Village Day Ranger
Day shopping trip to Bicester Village home to 900 outlet boutiques with the word’s leading fashion and lifestyle brands.
