Moving towards more cleaner and green energy often gets much of the limelight. Energy efficiency, however, does not seem to be so in vogue, but the British Gas Home Energy Plan aims to solve that. As a forerunner to the Green Deal, it’s a new service which brings together energy efficiency and renewable power generation.
British Gas Home Energy Plan – the Green Deal arrives early
Next year the government’s energy efficient flagship, the Green Deal will launch. The British Gas Home Energy Plan will proceed the Green Deal and enable customers to start making saving today.
A spokesman from British Gas said:
“We know that household budgets are stretched at the moment but rising energy prices don’t have to mean higher bills. Britain’s housing stock is some of the most inefficient in the developed world with £1 in every £4 spent on heating our homes wasted because of poor insulation. Under our offer, customers can improve their homes and save money by cutting bills – all at no upfront cost.”
“Basic efficiency measures can make a difference. Our customers who install a range of measures save £322 a year on average.”
British Gas Home Energy Plan – How does it work?
Customers will get a survey by an energy expert who will go through their home recommending and tailoring improvements specific to their needs. This will also show how much money the British Gas Home Energy Plan will save them on an annual basis. Measures for improvement will include:
- Energy efficient heating products – such as A rated boilers, thermostatic radiator valves
- Home insulation – such as cavity wall and loft insulation
- Electricity saving – such as efficient lighting, eco kettles, electricity monitors
- Electricity generation – such as solar pv
If customers choose to go ahead, they can then implement the improvements and pay for it through monthly repayments on their bill. The British Gas Home Energy Plan expert will recommend the best overall package, based on the energy saving recommendation.
Together with the recently launched Energyshare product, it demonstrates British Gas’ commitment to greener energy. The British Gas Home Energy Plan is another example of how they are driving innovation and years ahead of their other ‘Big Six’ competitors.
